Cherry Hills Theater — Dedicated Home Cinema
A purpose-built cinema where the acoustics were designed before the finishes — reference projection, immersive surround, and a room that disappears when the lights drop.

The challenge
The room was a rectangular basement space with hard surfaces, a low soffit, and mechanical noise bleeding through one wall. The clients wanted reference performance without the room reading as a black box.
Our approach
We modeled the room acoustically before selecting a single product — seating distances, speaker angles, and first-reflection points were set on drawings.
Isolation and treatment were built into the construction: decoupled wall assemblies, absorption behind the acoustically transparent screen wall, and bass traps hidden in the soffit.
Fabric, millwork, and lighting were coordinated with the designer so the treatment reads as an intentional interior, not as foam on a wall.
The result
Dialogue is intelligible at any seat, the low end is even front to back, and a single button dims the lights, closes the shades upstairs, and starts the film.

Home technology in Cherry Hills Village
Acoustics first, finishes second
Every performance decision was made before the drywall went up. The screen wall is acoustically transparent with the front three channels behind it at ear height, and the side and height channels are placed to the immersive-audio layout rather than to what was convenient in the framing.

Lighting that sets the mood
Layered theater lighting — step, cove, sconce, and a fiber-optic star ceiling — runs on dimmable scenes tied to playback. Press play and the room fades to the right level on its own; pause and the aisles come up just enough to move safely.

Questions about this project
What does a dedicated home cinema cost in Cherry Hills Village?
Dedicated rooms at this level are scoped by room size, acoustic treatment, seating count, and projection choice. We price after a room study rather than from a package list, because the acoustic and sightline work drives more of the budget than the electronics do.
Why design acoustics before finishes?
Speaker placement, screen height, riser geometry, and absorption all constrain where millwork, fabric, and lighting can go. Treating acoustics first means the finish package hides the treatment instead of fighting it.
Can the theater be controlled from the rest of the home system?
Yes. The cinema is a room within the same control platform, so lighting scenes, shades, and audio distribution behave consistently with every other space in the house.
